I Have Allergies - What Can I Do?We get many questions from customers who have allergic reactions to jewelry, especially earrings. Unfortunately, medical science doesn't yet have an easy explanation or cure for such sensitivities. There's a common misconception that buying stamped 14k/18k/24k gold, or "solid gold" or "pure gold" will prevent reactions. Sadly, this is rarely the case. There's no such thing as "solid" or "pure" gold. If there were, it would be 100k instead of 24k. Solid gold is too soft to be used for jewelry, so it is mixed with alloys to give it strength and durability. The mix of alloys varies from one manufacturer to another. This is why one 14k gold item can be held up next to another and their color may vary slightly. It is usually these alloys that cause a reaction in the wearer, not the gold (or silver) itself. Since each designer uses a varying alloy base, it is best to simply try an item out for a day or two and see how it feels. Some people are just too sensitive - I am one of them - after only a few hours of wear, my ears will itch and bleed. Consequently, I save my earrings for special occasions only or wear clips instead. How should I care for my jewelry? Our jewelry collection is made with the same quality and durability as high-end, fine jewelry, and is made to last a lifetime. Therefore, you can get the most out of it by giving it the same care as your fine jewelry items. |
